Philip J. Penrose, M.D.
OphthalmologistDr. Philip J. Penrose is an Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon who specializes in the latest techniques in wavefront LASIK and cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses. In addition to helping Monterey LASIK eye surgery and cataracts patients achieve clear vision, his clinical interests include the medical and surgical management of diabetic eye disease and glaucoma.
Dr. Penrose received his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University and attended medical school at the University of Colorado. He then completed his medical internship at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He received his specialty training in ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and completed a research fellowship at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute.
Dr. Penrose is a board-certified ophthalmologist and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the California Association of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the Monterey County Medical Society. He has an academic affiliation with California Pacific Medical Center training ophthalmology residents in the principles and techniques of ophthalmic surgery. Dr. Penrose has authored numerous research papers and presented at ophthalmic meetings nationwide.
Dr. Penrose has also recently won The Golden Pine Cone award for 2021 Best Ophthalmologist on the Monterey Peninsula. 
Bilingual in Spanish and English, Dr. Penrose has a specific interest in international service and regularly spends time in an underserved area of Guatemala performing cataract surgeries. He has also traveled to Mexico and Paraguay to provide various services to the needy. Dr. Penrose believes that such philanthropic ventures are important to spreading the prosperity and opportunity available in America to those in less fortunate areas.
